Looking back on 2011

If it seems like the year of the Occupy movement, that's a huge testament to the power of the effort that arose in New York on September 17, and had its Maine debut on October 1, spreading from Portland through the entire state over the course of that mo

Boston's Best in City Life 2009

There’s so much to love about Boston, it’s hard sometimes to know where to start. Traffic? Obnoxious Sox fans? Irritating students? Norway rats? Inflated rents? An inferiority complex unlike any on the Eastern seaboard?

Boston's Best Shopping 2009

There are two kinds of people in the world: people who love to shop and people who would rather prepare for a colonoscopy than enter a store. This latter bunch could account for the Best Readers’ Poll write-in “votes."

Shopping Sprees: A natural occurence

Shopping Sprees: A natural occurence

A LOT of women love to shop, and buy things -- expensive things. But really it's not our fault! It's completely natural I swear. Of course like our bad mood swings, and our thirst for chocolate and cheese (not together), it's all linked to our monthly cycle. And now we can all blame a trip down Newbury Street, maxed credit cards in hand, on our bodies. At least that's what a new study coming out in Britain is saying anyway.

Gone More Than Fishing

Adventure gifts for the fearless on your list

Me, I'm an armchair adventurer. Sure, I jumped out of an airplane once. But I’m also the girl who screamed “When will it be over?” throughout my one and only rollercoaster ride, and the person who literally keeps the home fires burning in the slopeside condo while my friends are whizzing down the mountain. Were it not captured on video, I might even doubt that my afternoon of skydiving ever took place at all.

Still, I recognize that there are (crazy) people out there who actually enjoy the rush of adrenaline that comes from speed, turbulence, and pushing limits. For them, try these appropriately adventurous gifts on for terror — er, size.
