The one element needed when revitalizing a neglected canon? Verve. Ever since the Carolina Chocolate Drops hit the trad-acoustic scene a few years ago, they've kept this notion front and center.

Social Scribe blogs BOLDFACERS “Spring Stylemakers” party

Lights. Camera. Fashion. BOLDFACERS surely lived up to its name at an event that saw loads of Boston glitterati truckin’ it to the burbs for a Spring Stylemakers event hosted at Neiman Marcus in the Natick Collection. But even Social Scribe must admit it was worth the tolls and the recruitment of a designated driver.

This corner of the otherwise barren Natick Collection was burgeoning with activity as the second floor of Neiman Marcus was taken over by Lisa Pierpont, who was decked out in $85,000 in Neiman’s jewelry — needless to say, Lisa had two extremely close friends that evening (NM security). The bubbly was flowing as the guests arrived and began to mingle, nibble, and shop before the Stylemakers fashion show was set to begin.

Speaking of entourages, we spott

ANNA CHESHIRE LEVITAN
WRITER/EDITOR/PRODUCER
We spotted her at
the WANT IT! party, presented by Saks Fifth Avenue and the Esplanade Association.
She caught our eye because looked like she just came from chic beachside lunch.
She looked perfectly proportioned in a Tibi pink paisley shirt (Anna grew up with Tibi designer Amy Wallin Smilovic on St. Simons Island, Georgia), YaYa high-waisted bell bottoms, Prada shoes, and a Free People bag.
She can’t live without spring coats, particularly a black-andwhite houndstooth coat and a bright pink coat with gold stitching.
Her must-stop shops: Saks and Calypso

The good life?

The good life?

Now might just be the time to indulge your champagne taste

This economy, for better or worse, has redefined the term “need.” We don’t really need to buy that new 42-inch plasma TV, but it’s so cheap! How can we not? And those Christian Louboutin suede booties? They’re practically giving them away! (Fine, that one’s a bit of stretch, but bear with me here.) Times of economic uncertainty bring up all sorts of questions. Chief among them: what really distinguishes a need from a want?

Past Tense

Even though it requires some upclose-and-personal time with the weird fungus creeping around our drain, a bath — augmented with a few candles, a glass of wine, and a good book, of course — is one of our favorite ways to decompress. A great addition? A couple of effervescent, smell-like-our-favoritemartini SugarBath Lychee Bath Cubes ($34), available at Fresh (121 Newbury Street, Boston, 617.421.1212). The cubes contain real brown sugar, purported to heal cuts and soothe skin.

Fast track: Beauty shortcuts that’ll shave moments off your prep time

Fast track: Beauty shortcuts that’ll shave moments off your prep time

As much as we’d love to schedule regular sessions at our favorite medi-spa, extralong lunch breaks for yet another “doctor’s appointment” aren’t always possible. But there’s no excuse not to squeeze in a before-bed peel with the Microdelivery Mini Peel Pads ($35) by Philosophy, available at Nordstrom (Natick Collection, 290 Speen Street, Natick, 508.318.2600). Like the anti-acne pads of our middle-school days, these glide over the face and neck, exfoliating, evening skin tone, and diminishing the look of fine lines with nary an uncomfortable tingle.

Sweetsmelling Green Apple Peel ($39) from Juice Beauty is right at home beside organic fruits, veggies, and other goodforyou foodstuffs that line the shelves at Whole Foods (various locations) — it’s created with a base of organic apple, lemon, and fruit juices, plus raw cane sugar. Considering our skin absorbs up to 64 percent of what we smooth on it, according to the beauty brand, we’re happy to minimize the harsh chemicals included in our primping regimen.

Looking for a professional-grade peel — or as close as you’re willing to attempt without the supervision of a trained aesthetician? We suggest the 3-Minute Peel ($128) from Laboratoire Remède. Its intensive blend of ingredients to slough off dead skin cells, soften fine lines, and add firmness and protection is übereffective, though the brand does suggest slathering on sunscreen for at least a week after the treatment — and, for sensitive types, gradually working up to the full three minut
