Anthony Montuori's retro-style video games might be called the art of losing. In one, you're the legendary Sisyphus failing to lift a boulder to the top of an 8-bit mountain.

Make way for cornhole

When I left Chicago for Boston three years ago, I expected to leave a few things behind. Friendliness, for one, and deep-dish pizza, and modernist architecture, and perfect hot dogs, and . . . cornhole.

Thursday and Friday, December 18 & 19 And January 2, 8, & 9: Post-work Pregame

Wind down from a long work day — or get wound up for the weekend, depending on your mood — with $4 appetizers, $1 drafts, and a $100-gas-card raffle at the Post-work Pregame at Game On! Fenway (82 Lansdowne Street, Boston, 617.351.7001) from 5 to 8 p.m. At a time when you’d otherwise be skimming your iPod playlists to make a grueling commute a little less so, this afterwork kickback features live music from local artists — and a chance to forgo the crowded T or bumper-to-bumper traffic on the Pike for some much-needed relaxation. There’s no cover charge; more information about upcoming musical guests is available at 617.351.7001.

Home(Run) For The Holidays

Many of us grew up fantasizing about playing in the big leagues, running the bases at Fenway, and swinging for the Green Monster. Now you can make that dream a reality for the sports fanatic on your holiday shopping list. Well, sort of. The folks at Game On! (82 Lansdowne Street, Boston, 617.351.7001) are booking holiday parties for groups of 15 or more to eat, drink, and swing bats at the historic ballpark. The package includes access to Fenway’s visiting-team batting cages, where party-goers can watch their friends hit one out of the park (or at least make a feeble attempt). So it’s not exactly a multi-million dollar contract or an invitation to join the Sox, but it’s a hell of a lot closer than we’ve been before. For pricing and booking information, call 617.351.7001.

Thursday, October 9 & 16: Recession Sessions

Since gas is so cheap, the economy is in great shape, and jobs are abundant, we’re sure you’ve got plenty of cash to blow on a night out. Clearly, we kid. Thankfully, Game On! (82 Lansdowne Street, Boston, 617.351.7001) understands that we want to kick back, listen to live music, and even hedge our bets on winning a $100 gas card, so they’re bringing us Recession Sessions every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Enjoy cocktails and $4 appetizers including clam chowder, buffalo wings, and nachos while local musician Ryan Mara plays acoustic tunes. As with any recession-worthy event, admission is free.
